Denice Franke
Opening For The Downtown County Band
Frankes plays her acoustic guitar with a musical eloquence that is uncommon in this era of bang 'n' strummers. The guitar, the voice and all else work in service to songs populated by seekers and wonderers. “A lot of the characters in her songs, their lives are associated with the gulf and the water and those surroundings, and the gulf coast ties them all in.” Franke said.

December 3, 2008 Art Mize and Roanoke

and Special Guests:
The Berea College Bluegrass Ensemble
Roanoke began at a patio jam one night with Art, Al White and Travis Reynolds at Cumberland Dance Camp, where all three were on staff providing music for traditional dance classes. They were immediately inspired by the rich and ready harmonies and the passionate hot picking. The following summer, when Homer Ledford was too ill to make an engagement at the Woodland Jubilee, they were asked to fill in and were delighted to have the occasion to bring the ensemble together. Their center of gravity floats somewhere between Monroe, the Stanleys and Muleskinner. The lineup is Al White on guitar, Travis Reynolds on banjo, Elmer Burchett on bass and Art Mize on fiddle.
Al White and his Blue Grass Ensemble are making news with their down home music, fun performances, and talent. But these are no ordinary musicians; they are the best of the best, carefully selected for the quality of their music and performance skills. Last, but certainly not least, is Al White himself, the founding father of the group at Berea College, and a member of the band. He plays every instrument. Al is a professor at Berea College, where he gives Appalachian String Instrument lessons.
The group has been at Berea College since 2000, where Director Al White started with 5 band members. Today it has grown to 6; two fiddlers, one banjo player, one singer/mandolin player, a bassist, and White himself on guitar.
Previous performances include a two week tour of Ireland, Berea Forum performances, private parties, college performances, and performances with other Colleges, such as East Tennessee State University. In October of this year, the Berea College Bluegrass Ensemble toured Hokuto City as part of a cultural exchange program sponsored by the American Committee for KEEP [Kiyosato Educational Experiment Project] and the Madison County International Committee.
December 10, 2008 Tommy Webb & Tom The Tommy Webb Band
The band members are Tommy Webb (Lead Singer/Guitarist), Chris Goble (High Tenor/Banjo), Kenny O'Quinn (Vocals/Mandolin), and Tadd Huff (Baritone Vocals/Bass). His 2007 CD project honors his bluegrass home, music, and other artists in the genre. The importance and significance of bluegrass in Tommy’s life are reinforced in the title cut on “ Eastern Kentucky” that refers to the priceless, timeless, and comforting songs of his state. The band has good emotionally-charged material, and it’s presented with distinguished vocalizing and consummate musicianship. Tommy first started jamming and singing as a teen and over the years, Webb’s bands have included the Pine Top Ramblers, South Creek, Onlyne, Clyde Bowling and the Southern Bluegrass Boys, and now his own Tommy Webb Band (since 2005)

Backroom Bluegrass Band
Alluring Handbell Ensemble
And
Special Guests
Friendship and fun are the foundation of the Lexington, KY, band that “came together accidentally” in a backroom of Crestwood Christian Church during a talent show in October 2000. The Backroom Bluegrass Band is comprised of six principal members: Bill Johnson, who plays several instruments in addition to his banjo; his spouse and bass player Jane Johnson; dobro player and tenor Dan Pence; mandolin player Pat Soister; and guitarist and lead singer Walt Johnson, all of Lexington. Their choice of music has been a natural outgrowth of the group’s personality and features traditional bluegrass, gospel tunes, and unique arrangements of traditional and original songs.
Michael Rintamaa is the director and founder of the Central Kentucky Community Handbell Ensemble, “Alluring,” which had its beginnings in 2002. The music produced by this ensemble is amazing and a perfect way to begin the Holiday Season!
